The video camera icon on the map indicates its current state:

Icon	State
Image Added	Camera is armed, no recording to the archive
Image Added	Camera is connected to the System
Image Added	Camera is disabled in the System
Image Added	Lost communication with camera
Image Added	Recording to the archive in progress

The current state of the camera is also indicated using the icon background color:

To control the camera from the map, click on its icon, and a context menu will open:
