If you install Axxon PSIM on a computer where an earlier version is used, then the installation will be performed in the update mode.

Important to know before you update Axxon PSIM:

  1. Before you update, we recommend you back up all databases that you use—see Creating the database backup copy. Also, copy and save the psim.sec license file (located in the root of the Axxon PSIM installation directory, by default: C:\Program Files/PSIM).
  2. Axxon PSIM can be updated if there is a difference in the third digit of the version number and the first two digits are the same. If the first and/or second digits are different, you must reinstall Axxon PSIM instead of updating, that is, uninstall the previous version and install the new one.
    Examples:
    1. You can update from version 1.0.1 to version 1.0.2.
    2. You cannot update from version 1.0.1 to 1.2.0; you need to reinstall.
  3. Before starting the update, you must stop Axxon PSIM if it is running.
  4. You must run the update as a Windows administrator.
  5. When you update Axxon PSIM on the server or remote administrator’s workstation, you must also update Axxon PSIM on the remote client. The compatible versions of Axxon PSIM must be installed on remote clients and on server/remote administrator’s workstation, that is, the first two digits of the version number must be the same (for example, versions 2.1 and 2.2 aren't compatible, but versions 2.0.1 and 2.0.3 are compatible).
  6. You can update Axxon PSIM 1.0 to Axxon PSIM 2.0. This process requires manual configuration. For detailed information on updating, please contact technical support.

To update Axxon PSIM, do the following:

  1. Unpack the installation kit as described in Getting ready for Axxon PSIM installation. The destination folder will show the contents of the kit.
  2. Run the setup.exe file used to start the Axxon PSIM installation procedure.
    As a result, a window for choosing the Installation wizard language is displayed.
  3. Choose the language of the Installation wizard and click the Install button.

    As a result, the Type of installation window opens.
  4. Choose the type of installation needed.

  5. To log all installation events, set the Enable full installation log (increases product installation time) checkbox.

    When you update the software, events are logged to the PSIMSetup.log log file. To collect log files, use the Support.exe tool (see The utility for collecting system data for the technical support service).
  6. Click the Next button.
    The Selecting components for installation window opens.

  7. Set the checkboxes next to the components that you want to install.

    We recommend installing all suggested components.

  8. Click the Install button.
    The selected prerequisites and drivers will be installed. 

    During the installation process, you will be prompted to remove the installed vertical solutions. Two options are possible:

    1. If you click the Yes button, the vertical solutions are removed during the update process. In this case, you will need to reinstall them after the update. Installation manuals are available in the documentation for each solution, links are on the main documentation page for Axxon PSIM 2.0. You must also take into account the compatibility of versions: General information about product releases and versions compatibility.

    2. If you click the No button, the vertical solutions won't be removed and will be compatible with the new version of Axxon PSIM after the update.

    When prerequisites and drivers are installed, the window of Axxon PSIM update opens.

  9. Click the Next button.
    The window for selecting the type of update opens.

  10. Select one of the suggested types of update. The types of updates are described in the table below:

  11. Click the Next button.
    When the system is configured, installation of Axxon PSIM starts.

    When you update Axxon PSIM on Windows 7 SP1 OS without an internet connection, an error can occur during the installation of the drivers for the FX4 card. To eliminate this error, install the following missing Windows updates:

  12. As a result, the Update Complete window opens.

  13. Click the Finish button.

    Then the DriversPack will be installed if you selected this component.

    The Installation complete window opens. It contains the information about the mode (installed or not) of Axxon PSIM components. 

  14. Click the Finish button.
    A window prompting to restart the computer opens.

    To correctly finish the installation of Axxon PSIM, you must restart the computer. If you don’t choose to restart now, you will have to do it yourself after the installation.

Axxon PSIM is now updated.

If you try to update Axxon PSIM to an older version, the updating process will go as described above, but the version will remain the same, and there will be no changes in the software.
