The Automatic Update Service is used to configure the automatic update of Intellect and vertical solutions in a distributed network. The service is installed in addition to the main product and works independently of it.
The principle of operation is as follows: there is an Update Server that distributes the version for the update, and Update Agents that are dependent servers that receive the version from the Update Server and install it. Thus, you need to select the distributor server and install on it the Update Server and the program to manage the updates—the Update Manager, and install the Update Agent on the servers that will need to be automatically updated.
After installation, you need to configure the Update Server and the Agents.
Once configured, it will work as follows:
- The Agents connect to the Update Server.
The Update Server contains a list of available updates.
The automatic update parameters for the Agents are configured on the Update Server using the Update Manager program.
At some point in time (depending on the settings in the Update Manager) the Agent receives an update task in the form of an installation package. This package updates Intellect on the Agent.
Note
If the Agent receives an installation package with an older version, it will try to install that version, but ultimately the current version will remain unchanged.
Requirements for user rights on Windows
Note that the automatic update on the Client starts a software installation that may require Administrator privileges on Windows.
The behavior will be as follows:
- When updating as a standard user with UAC enabled: during installation there will be a start request requiring an Administrator password.
- When updating as an Administrator with UAC enabled: during installation there will be an installation permission request.
- When updating with UAC disabled: there won’t be any additional requests.
